12 security personnel martyred during Manipur crisis: CM

Imphal, Mar 1 (Reporter) Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh informed the House on Friday that so far nine Manipur Police and three security personnel have died, and 165 personnel including 98 police personnel injured during the Manipur crisis. He said no government records were lost due to the crisis which began on May 3, 2023. Singh said about 80 percent of government records were digitized and government documents especially at the border town of Moreh were kept in a secure place. Government offices including offices and residents of DC, SP office, of Churachandrapur district, and government offices at Moreh were burnt, the Chief Minister said. Security personnel use nonlethal weapons and tear gas shells to control the mob. However, during the attack at Churachandpur many persons were carrying AK 47 and fired at security personnel he added. A police personnel was also suspended for working with Kuki militants, he added. Singh further said police have procured some bulletproof vehicles to control the situation. Interactions with various leaders were going on to restore normalcy in the state, he added. Agriculture Minister Th Biswajit said about 5127 hectares of agricultural land were affected incurring a loss of about Rs 38.6 crore. Okram Surjakumar of Congress said about 10000 hectares of land were affected till September 2023 due to the crisis and about Rs 211 crore crops were lost as per an assessment by an organization. Kh Joykishan raised the issue of a shortage of school books, uniforms, and poor infrastructure. Th Basanta, Education Minister said due to the blockade on National Highways printing of about 8 lakh books was delayed and the government has just Rs one crore to augment infrastructure and equipments...////...
