18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas kickstarts in Temple City of Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Jan 8 (Reporter) The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) commenced on Wednesday in the capital city of Bhubaneswar, bringing together distinguished leaders and delegates to celebrate the contributions of the Indian diaspora. The annual conference was inaugurated by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, in the presence of Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandviya and Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse. The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention will be formally inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 9. Christine Carla Kangaloo, ORTT, the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, will be the chief guest and will address the convention virtually. The event will host ministerial-level delegations from Mauritius, Malaysia, and South Africa, alongside large delegations of the diaspora from countries such as Oman, Qatar, the UAE, the UK, and the USA. There will be five plenary sessions chaired by Union Ministers and moderated by eminent Indians from their respective fields. The inaugural day set the stage for a diverse audience of officials, industry leaders, and members of the Indian diaspora, recognised as significant contributors to India's socio-economic landscape. A global confluence of cultures, the mega event celebrates the contributions of the Indian diaspora to India's growth and development. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas fosters stronger connections with the diaspora globally, showcasing opportunities for collaboration. In line with tradition, this year's conference promises to be a landmark event, weaving together themes of heritage, innovation, and global engagement. A series of seminars, discussions, and cultural programs aim to enhance Indo-foreign relations and investment prospects. Among the key attractions of the conference are thematic sessions addressing issues pertinent to non-resident Indians. Topics include investment opportunities, cultural exchanges, and digital collaboration. Delegates will also enjoy performances reflecting India's rich cultural heritage. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, first celebrated in 2003 by the Ministry of External Affairs, marked the beginning of a new chapter in India’s engagement with its diaspora. Over the years, it has evolved into a vital platform to connect with Indians worldwide. On the afternoon of the first day, the Odisha State Government will host two plenary sessions: "Unraveling India's Best Kept Secret" and "Odisha, a Land of Opportunities." These sessions will showcase the immense potential for the Indian diaspora to engage in Odisha's tourism, trade, and investments across various sectors, including textiles, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and startups. The Odisha Government will also offer PBD delegates an opportunity to experience the state’s rich cultural heritage through visits to tourist and cultural attractions near Bhubaneswar. These activities will highlight Odisha's intrinsic and diverse art forms and popular festivals. Additionally, arrangements have been made to serve a variety of Odia cuisines to the delegates over the course of the three-day event...////...
