Itanagar, Aug 28 (Reporter) Three Army personnel were killed and five others sustained serious injuries when the truck they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge near Tapi village under Dumporijo circle in Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Havildar Nakhat Singh, Naik Mukesh Kumar and Grenadier Ashish Kumar. All the jawans were from the 19 Grenadiers Regiment.
Upper Subansiri district Superintendent of Police Thutan Jampa informed that the accident happened around 7.30 am on Tuesday when a 19 Grenadiers Regiment convoy was on its way to Jorhat, Assam from their headquarters at Bara Rupuk under Dumporijo sub-division.
“The accident site is around 24 kms away from their HQs at Bara Rupuk on the way to Aalo. The ill-fated truck which was carrying eight jawans was the last vehicle from the convoy. It fell into a gorge, which was around 50 metres deep,” the SP said.
He further informed that four out of five injured personnel were airlifted to Dibrugarh for improved treatment.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army’s Eastern Command has condoled the death of its personnel.
“Lt Gen RC Tiwari, #ArmyCdrEC & All Ranks express deepest condolences on the sad demise of Bravehearts Hav Nakhat Singh, Nk Mukesh Kumar and Gdr Ashish who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in #ArunachalPradesh. Indian Army stands firmly with the bereaved families,” the Army's Eastern Command said in a post on X.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu also mourned the loss of the three Army personnel.
“I am deeply pained by loss of lives of three @adgpi personnel - Havildar Nakhat Singh, Naik Mukesh Kumar and Grenadier Ashish Kumar - in a tragic accident near Tapi in Upper Subansiri district.
Their service to the nation and supreme sacrifice will be remembered with the highest regards. My condolences to the bereaved families. I pray to Lord Buddha for the peace of brave souls. Om Mani Padme Hum,” Khandu tweeted...////...
