Agartala, Apr 1 (Reporter) As many as 70 companies of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have been deployed in Tripura to hold the Lok Sabha poll peacefully, police said here on Monday.
Considering the previous instances Tripura police had demanded the deployment of CAPF and accordingly, a month before the election process was started deployment was made.
Tripura is going to poll in two phases. The election to West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency and a by-poll to the Ramnagar assembly constituency is to be held on April 19 while polling to East Tripura ST reserved seat is scheduled on April 26.
Apart from deploying CAPF, 5000 Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, more than 350 Flying Squad Teams (FST), and Static Surveillance Teams (SST) pressed into operation in Tripura for two Lok Sabha constituencies, he stated.
More than 1000 vehicle checkpoints were installed besides 100 permanent spot checkpoints followed by search operations. As part of the confidence-building measure among the voters, CAPF has been conducting regular flag marches covering entire habitations in each of the 65 police station areas of the state.
"Over 1700 flag marches have been conducted by CAPF alone, with over 1.25 lakh vehicles checked in last month and collected more than Rupees one crore as fines from the vehicles for violation of traffic rules. Narcotics, liquor, and gambling articles, worth over Rs 3.5 crore have been confiscated, and over 12,000 preventive arrests have been made so far," a senior police officer stated.
"Senior officers are regularly visiting the districts to brief the force and inspect the law-and-order situation. Similarly, district SPs, Additional SPs, and SDPOs are frequently visiting interior police stations and camps to interact with jawans and subordinate officers to motivate them," he added...////...
