Itanagar, Apr 24 (Reporter) Arunachal Pradesh recorded about 80 percent voter turnout in the repolling held at eight polling stations spread across four Assembly constituencies on Wednesday, amid tight security arrangements, an election official said.
The repolling was conducted at one polling station each under Bameng and Nyapin Assembly constituencies, two in Rumgong, and four under Nacho Assembly segment - all under Arunachal West Parliamentary Constituency.
“The voting that started at 6 am in the morning concluded at 2 pm peacefully without any untoward incident,” Arunachal Pradesh Joint Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Liken Koyu said, while adding that the overall voting percentage is 79.8 per cent.
The fresh polling was taken following an order from the Election Commission of India (ECI), which declared the simultaneous polls held at these polling booths on April 19 as void and fixed April 24 as the date for the repoll.
The repolling was necessitated following reports of poll-related violence, including damage to electronic voting machines (EVMs), allegations of booth capturing during the simultaneous elections to the 18th Lok Sabha and 11th State Legislative Assembly held on April 19.
The fresh poll was held at Sario polling station under Bameng constituency in East Kameng district; Longte Loth under Nyapin Assembly segment in Kurung Kumey, Bogne and Molom poll booths under Rumgong constituency in Siang district, and Dingser, Bogia Siyum, Jimbari and Lengi under Nacho in Upper Subansiri district.
An estimated 82.71 per cent voters had exercised their franchise on April 19 to elect 50 members of the 60-member Assembly (as 10 seats were won by ruling BJP unopposed), while 77.51 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Lok Sabha polls for two MP seats.
Counting of votes for the Assembly polls will be held on June 2 – two days before the Lok Sabha polls votes counting...////...
