New Jalpaiguri, Dec 11 (UINI A local court in North Bengal's Jalpaiguri district has convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his wife. Gopal Das, the convict, a resident under the Bhaktinagar police station, on Tuesday was sentenced to death by the Jalpaiguri court for killing his spouse in 2019. On April 21, 2019, the Bhaktinagar police received a call saying the body of a woman was seen in a septic tank of a house. After interrogating some suspected people, Police arrested the husband, and during police remand, he confessed to suffocating his wife to death with a pillow and then threw the body into the septic tank. The murder trial began on September 9, 2021, after a detailed charge sheet was filed. Throughout the proceedings, the prosecution presented 19 witnesses.
