Malappuram, Jan 5 (Reporter) A 35-year-old tribal youth has died after a wild elephant
attacked him at the Karulai forest range in Nilambur forest.
Police said the youth was attacked by the elephant on Saturday night and he succumbed to injuries at Nilambur district hospital, in the early hours, of Sunday.
Police identified the deceased as Mani (35),belonging to the Cholanaikar community, and residing at Manchiri- Poochappara colony in Karulai village in Nilambur taluk in the district.
The incident took place at around 1900 hrs on Saturday, when the victim Mani , his five-year-old son, and two others were returning from Palamed tribal hostel, after dropping his daughter off to reach Poochappara Nagar.
Mani was walking by carrying his 5-year-old son in hands, but suddenly a wild elephant attacked him and the Child was thrown out of his hands to the ground.
One of the accomplices took the child and three others managed to flee the scene. After some time, the tribals returned to the accident spot took away the injured Mani, and alerted the Forest Department.
Forest officials rushed to the spot and rushed Mani to a hospital at Cherupuzha. But, he succumbed to head injuries in the early hours of Sunday while undergoing treatment.
Kerala Forest Minister A K Saseedharan said the Forest Department will provide Rs ten lakh as financial assistance to the kin of the Mani, and out of this Rs five lakh will be handed over soon as an initial solatium.
The District Forest Officer also assured that a temporary job will be given to Mani's wife under the Forest Department.
