Kolkata, Mar 7 (Reporter) Ex-Calcutta High Court Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay on Thursday, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a promise he made after he resigned from the post of sitting judge on Tuesday, as he had announced his intention to enter a larger hemisphere of life to serve the people who cannot approach the court of law.
"I am feeling very happy to be in a national party," said the former judge.
The joining happened after the BJP's state president, Sukanta Majumdar, welcomed him, addressed the media, and opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari explained about his new innings with Abhijit Gangopadhyay.
Adhikari said that Union Minister Amit Shah also sent a message to the party about joining the former judge.
The party's Bengal observer, Mangal Pandey, also graced the occasion and spoke about the situation in the state.
Earlier, he was greeted with the blowing of conch shells, ululu, and showered flowers on the women as they got out of the car to enter the BJP's election office. Hundreds of party followers gathered at the joining occasion, and they waved party flags to welcome him.
He said the BJP was his only option as the only opposition national party, which was fighting against the alleged corruption in the state indulged by the ruling TMC.
He opined that the Congress was a party of dynasty rule and the CPI (M) does not believe in God, as he performed pujas.
The joining happened at the BJP's Salt Lake office, where the former judge was escorted from his home by party members Sajal Ghosh, Agmitra Paul, and Tamagna Ghosh, sources said.
