Shillong, July 4 (Reporter) The Border Security Force on Thursday said action has been against "touts" facilitating the influx of Bangladeshi nationals into India.
“We have apprehended a lot of touts in India and booked them under various sections of law. We have also shared information about such touts existing in Bangladesh,” Inspector General (BSF) Tripura Frontier Patel Piyush Purusottam Das said after the conclusion of the four-day commander-level Border Coordination Conference with Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) here in Meghalaya.
Das, who led the 13-member Indian delegation, revealed that the issue of influx of refugees was also discussed during the bilateral meeting.
Inspector General ( BSF) Meghalaya Frontier HS Dhillon said, “We have shared our concern about the touts existing in Bangladesh and the BGB has assured to take action against those touts.”
Apart from the Rohingyas, over the past few months, there has been a surge of refugees from Bangladesh entering into India, especially through the Mizoram and Cachar sector.
Close to 2000 refugees from the Chittagong Hill tracts of Bangladesh have entered Mizoram in the past few months and the stream of refugees trickling into India is only increasing.
However, Additional Director General, Region Commander, Chattogram (Chittagong), Md Shazedur Rahman, said, “As per the data available, with the improvement of the social economic condition in Bangladesh, the number of people migrating to other countries have come down.”
“We dont find any news that it is increasing. in Bangladesh our socio-economic condition is increasing so going to other countries is decreasing as per our data source,” the BGB official added.
The BSF and BGB also signed the Joint Discussion Record after both sides “reached a consensus on several key measures” to effectively deal with crimes along the India-Bangladesh border...////...
