Chennai, June 21 (Reporter) The main Opposition AIADMK MLAs were evicted en masse from the Tamil Nadu Assembly for creating ruckus after making a vain bid to raise the Kallkurichi spurious liquor tragedy, that claimed 47 lives. Soon after the day's proceedings began with the Question Hour, the AIADMK members, who came to the House by wearing black shirts as a mark of protest, sought to raise the issue but were denied permission by Speaker M.Appavu. Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, who is also a former Chief Minister, and Deputy Leader and former Minister R B Udhayakumar continued to insist the Chair and wanted Question Hour to be suspended and take up the important issue concerning the people. Immediately after the day's proceedings began after the Speaker read out a couplet from Thirukkural, the AIADMK members demanded that the issue should be taken up. Carrying placards, all the AIADMK members were on their feet and shouted slogans and also stormed the well of the House. They also attempted to stage a dharna with Mr Palaniswami, shouting slogans, squatting on the well of the House. Leader of the House Duraimurugan also said Mr Palaniswami being a former Chief Minister knows the Rules of the House and that Question Hour could not be suspended. He also the AIADMK members could speak during the Zero hour. As they continued to create ruckus, the Speaker ordered the watch and ward staff to evict them. Mr Udhayakumar was bodily lifted from the House. Speaking after their eviction, Duraimurugan termed the events staged by the LoP and other ADMK members as 'undesirable, sad, and regrettable'. "You (the speaker) took a decision under inevitable circumstances. They (the AIADMK MLAs) have come with the intention of leaving the house. I am surprised and saddened by the way they behaved,” he added. The Leader of the House pointed out that the LoP had served as a chief minister previously and hence must be familiar with the rules but was still engaging in such actions. The LoP has every right to advance his arguments in the House on any matter but it must conform to the rules of the House...I asked the Speaker to ascertain what the Leader of Opposition wanted to convey to the House and probably consider if we could adjourn the question hour." He said the rules do not permit anyone to level allegations during the question hour, which is very important. Echoing his views, Speaker Appavu said that many party members, including AIADMK’s Agri S S Krishnamurthy and O Panneerselvam had given notices under Rule 55 of the House to move a special call attention motion (for the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy) and did not have to create a ruckus. They were not denied the opportunity to speak on the call attention motion. They do not need to create such a ruckus. Despite being offered an opportunity o speak, they have done this. It is worrisome,” Appavu added. The Speaker also barred the media from airing the contents of the placards carried by the AIADMK members and sticking to the records, including the statements made by him earlier in the House. Later, on an appeal by Chief Minister M K Stalin, who was not present in the House when the AIADMK members were evicted, appealed to the Chair to withdraw the eviction order and allow them to participate in the debate and speak on the Special Call Attention Motion given notice of by members of various political parties, including the AIADMK. Recalling last year's twin hooch tragedies, the CM told the House, “In December 2001, a similar incident happened in which over 200 persons were affected I will provide a detailed reply after all the members speak on the issue. "This chief minister believes in the principal opposition party registering its views in the House. I don’t want to comment on your decision (the Speaker's) to evict them. I request the Speaker to allow the members of the Prinprincipal opposition party registering its views in the House. I don’t want to comment on your decision (the Speaker's) to evict them. I request the Speaker to allow the members of the Principal Opposition party to return to the House after the question hour." Following this Mr Appavu announced that the eviction order was withdrawn and asked the AIADMK members to return to the House, which will be taking up the Calling Attention Motion on the Kallkurichi liquor tragedy during Zero Hour after the Question Hour. The Speaker also expunged the remarks made in the House during the ruckus created by the AIADMK MLAs. However, the AIADMK members did not return to the House, despite the appeal. Later, the issue was taken up during Zero Hour and after leaders of various parties spoke on the tragedy, Mr Stalin gave a detailed reply on the steps taken by the government and promised to take stringent action against those involved in it. Later, the BJP MLAs and members of its ally, the PMK, who were also clad in black shirts, also staged a walk out on the issue...////...
