New Delhi, Sep 17 (Reporter) The All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Monday named Santosh Kashyap as the new head coach for the Indian senior women’s football team, effective September 16.
Kashyap, a former India international with nearly a decade of coaching experience, steps into the role with a clear goal to reclaim the SAFF Women’s Championship title.
The Blue Tigresses will begin their preparations for the tournament with a training camp in Goa starting September 20. The SAFF Women's Championship is set to be held at Kathmandu in Nepal from October 17 to 30.
Kashyap’s coaching pedigree includes stints with top I-League clubs such as Mohun Bagan AC, Aizawl FC, Mumbai FC, and Salgaocar FC, as well as roles as assistant coach for NorthEast United FC and Odisha FC in the Indian Super League. His appointment follows a period of underwhelming performances, and he is determined to turn things around.
In a statement to the AIFF website, Kashyap expressed his enthusiasm and commitment saying "Coaching the National Team is a significant honour, and I am grateful to AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey, the technical committee, and senior federation members for this opportunity. My coaching journey began with the Maharashtra U19 women’s team, and I now bring that experience as Head of Youth Development and Technical Director at Odisha FC to this role."
Kashyap is resolute about addressing past shortcomings. "Our performance in the previous SAFF Championship did not meet expectations. However, with strategic improvements and the right approach, I am confident we can reclaim the title. The competitive nature of international football requires us to be vigilant and respect every opponent.
The SAFF Championship is just the start; I have a broader vision for this team and believe they are capable of achieving great things."
Kashyap will be supported by PV Priya as assistant coach and Raghuvir Pravin Khanolkar as goalkeeper coach.
