Alertness of staff & passengers avert possible train mishap in Bengal

Malda, Feb 3 (Reporter) Alert staff as well as passengers averted a possible train accident on Saturday when one of the wheels caught fire immediately after leaving Malda Town station of the Eastern Railway, official sources said. The Kolkata-bound Kulik Express was packed when the passengers alerted the railway driver that smoke was billowing underneath a wheel soon after the train chugged off the Malda Town station around 0930 hours. The driver immediately used the emergency brake to stop the train, allowing the panicky passengers to deboard. The incident happened between Malda Town and Chamagram stations. The train was taken to Chamagram station for repairs and subsequently it left for Kolkata after an hour, sources added.
