Bhubaneswar, Jan 22 (Reporter) The Odisha government has decided to upgrade all government-run primary schools in the state to model schools in every panchayat under the Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Prathamik Vidyalaya (GMAPV) scheme.
This decision was approved by the state cabinet, on Wednesday chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
According to official figures, model primary schools will be established in 6,794 panchayats across the state. The estimated financial implication for constructing these schools is Rs 11,939 crore over five years, from 2024-25 to 2028-29.
The estimated cost per school ranges from Rs 1 crore to Rs 4 crore, depending on the number of enrollments in each school.
Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister stated that the actual expenditure would be based on the detailed project report (DPR).
He added that operationalizing 6,794 model primary schools would enhance educational access, deliver quality education, and foster the holistic development of students.
The initiative would also promote inclusivity and establish benchmark institutions aligned with the objectives of the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and the NIPUN Odisha program, aimed at strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) skills among students.
