America keeps Liga MX quarterfinal hopes intact

Mexico City, Nov 7 (Reporter) Club America boosted its hopes of an automatic berth in the Liga MX quarterfinals with a 2-1 home victory over Pachuca. The visitor took the lead through Arturo Gonzalez's 16th-minute strike before Alex Zendejas equalized with a long-range effort just before halftime on Wednesday. Alan Cervantes put the Mexico City outfit ahead just after the interval when he rifled a 30-yard drive into the top-right corner. Pachuca failed to capitalize on several chances to equalize in the second half as it fell to its ninth loss of the season. Club America has now won its past three games and is sixth in the 18-team standings with one match day remaining in the regular season. The top six teams will advance to the playoffs while those ranked seventh to 10th will contest a play-in round to decide the remaining two quarterfinal slots.
