Shillong, Jan 18 (Reporter) Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Meghalaya on Thursday to chair the 71st plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC), a regional planning body of eight northeastern states, on Friday, an official said.
The plenary meet would be attended by Governors and Chief Ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, who are also members of the NEC, except Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh due to the prevailing law and order situation in his state.
Shah is the ex-officio chairperson of the council while Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister G. Kishan Reddy is its vice-chairman.
Reddy and Minister of State, DoNER, B.L. Verma, including senior officers of DoNER and NITI Aayog, will take part in the plenary.
During the meeting, the action taken report of the 70th plenary would be tabled and discussions would be held on the activities of the NEC for the year 2022-23, a NEC official said.
“A presentation on the action plan of the NEC for 2023-24 and the NEC vision 2047 would be presented by the Secretary of the NEC,” the official said.
The official also said the members of the NEC would also hold discussion on the investment policies and programmes for the north eastern states, development of industries, strengthening of logistics, inter-regional trade, import substitution, export and then an open house discussion.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills has issued an order declaring certain areas to be no flying zones during the visit of Union Home Minister to the state capital.
The areas are the State Convention Centre and the Headquarters of the Director General of the Assam Rifles (DGAR) in Laitkor and the order will be in place on January 18 and 19.
“Operation of drones for photography or any other purposes is also strictly prohibited over the two areas on the said dates,” the order stated...////...
