Vijayawada, Jan 23 (Reporter) The Anganwadi workers called off their 42-day strike and resumed duties on Tuesday.
The Anganwadi workers union leaders’ negotiations with the government yielded results and the Anganwadi workers decided to call off their strike.
Education Minister Botcha Satyanarayana, Government Adviser (Public Affairs) Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and other senior officials took part in the negotiations with the union representatives, IFTU State general secretary K Polari told the media.
Over 1.6 lakh Anganwadi workers and helpers had been on strike for 42 days demanding the government to hike their salary to Rs 26,000 and pay Rs 5 lakh as retirement benefit besides other demands.
However, the government refused to concede their demands forcing the Anganwadi workers to go on strike. The Anganwadi workers had been on the road holding various types of agitations for the last 42 days and the police foiled their Chalo Vijayawada programme on January 22.
The government has assured the Anganwadi workers to meet their demands including the salary hike in July, 2024...////...
