AP CM thanks PM for Central aid to Polavaram project

New Delhi, Dec 25 (Reporter) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending financial assistance to complete the Polavaram project and the capital city Amaravati, which are two key issues for the development of the state. The Chief Minister called on Modi at the latter's residence and the meeting went on for over 45 minutes during which Chandrababu explained in detail the programmes taken up by his Government, financial issues and other matters. Informing the Prime Minister that the works of the Polavaram project, being constructed across the river Godavari, and capital city Amaravati have been resumed, the Chief Minister thanked Modi profusely for extending help to complete the projects. Chandrababu Naidu brought to Modi's notice the previous government's diversion of funds meant for 94 Centrally sponsored schemes following which the state suffered heavily. He also informed Modi that of these 94 schemes, 74 have been relaunced. Informing the Prime Minister about the establishment of the ArcelorMittal Steel Plant unit in Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister sought Central assistance for the supply of raw materials for the plant, besides helping to get the necessary permissions at the earliest. Chandrababu sought the Centre's cooperation in setting up the steel plant in the state by clearing all the technical snags. Briefing the Prime Minister on the damage caused to the state by the previous government, particularly derailing the financial system, the chief minister told Modi that the previous ruling dispensation has utilised five years' revenue deficit grants in just three years and sought financial help through special assistance. The Chief Minister submitted a copy of the Swarnandhra Vision-2047 document and explained the targets set by the state government as part of Viksith Bharat. He sought the Centre's cooperation to realise Vision-2047 and also explained to the Prime Minister the proposed massive programmes next month, including the laying of foundation stones and opening of some projects. Later, the Chief Minister had a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Seetharaman, wherein he explained in detail to them the poor financial condition of the State and the efforts that he is making to bring it back on track. He also sought release of funds from the Centre under different heads and sought special Central assistance keeping in view the poor financial condition of the state. In the morning, participating in the birth centenary of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vaypayee, the Chief Minister paid rich tributes to him.
