Vijayawada, Sep 2 (Reporter) The rescue and relief operations are in full swing in rain-affected areas in the city. The NDRF, SDRF, and state government machinery have taken up rescue and relief operations in a big way. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu visited some of the rain-hit areas on a fiber boat. Milk packets, water bottles, rice, and essential commodities were being distributed to the people in the affected areas. Official sources said that 11 Divisions were marooned in the Budameru rivulet water in the city while some localities in Ibrahimpatnam, Gollapudi, Yanamalakuduru, Kabela centre and Bhavanipuram were also inundated in the flood water. All the areas were in three to six feet of water. Though there has been no rain for 24 hours in the state, the flood water has not receded. The officials said that so far nine people have been killed in various rain-related incidents. Sources said that about 2.50 lakh people were affected by the floods in the city limits while another 50,000 people were in other areas. Shifting all the people to relief centres is a difficult task, officials said, adding that most people expressed reluctance to move to safer places. Sources attributed the deluge in Vijayawada city to the grabbing of Budameru rivulet riverbed in a big way illegally and construction of massive structures inhibiting the flow of flood water. The vehicular traffic between Vijayawada and Hyderabad has been suspended following overflowing of flood water on the highways at Inavaram village. However, vehicles are moving between Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam without any obstructions. The officials stopped the vehicular traffic on the Prakasam barrage across the river Krishna. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who conducted a review of heavy rainfall and flood situation from AP Disaster Management Authority office, decided to be more accessible to flood affected regions and started his administration from NTR district Collectorate in Vijayawada on Sunday by summoning all the officials of CMO. On the other hand, the Chief Minister contacted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and apprised them of the present flood crisis and requested them to treat this flood devastation as a natural calamity. As per the request of Chandrababu, the Central government responded immediately and started deploying 10 NDRF teams, 40 power boats, and six helicopters to rescue people from flood-affected regions...////...
