Anakapalle (Andhra Pradesh), Aug 21 (Reporter) At least ten workers were killed and over 30 others suffered burn injuries in a reactor explosion at a Pharmaceutical Company in Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in this district on Wednesday. State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha ordered an inquiry into the major mishap and directed Anakapalli district Collector Vijaya Krishnan to ensure better medical treatment for the victims. The reason for the explosion was yet to be ascertained and the death toll may increase as the slab of the first floor of the pharma unit has collapsed due to the huge impact of the explosion, police said here. Some workers might have been trapped in the debris. Over 200 workers are working in the pharma company when the incident occurred. Nearly dozen fire tenders from anakapalle and surrounding areas immediately rushed to the site to douse the flames while teams from NDRF reached the spot and rescue and relief operation is currently underway. Top district administration and police officials rushed to the spot. According to the Anakapalle district collector "the injured workers were shifted to NTR hospitals in Anakapalle town, KG Hospital in Vizag city and a few other hospitals." State Labour Minister Vasamsetty Subhash said that the death toll is unclear as the rescue operation still continued. Third party agencies supervision over the factories is the major reason for frequent mishaps in the industries, the Minister added. It may be noted here, in a similar incident last month, one person sustained severe burns, while some others received minor injuries when a fire broke out following a reactor explosion at a chemical factory in the SEZ, Atchutapuram.
