New Delhi, Sep 27 (Reporter) Andhra Pradesh Football Association Secretary Gopala Krishna Kosaraju on Friday voiced strong support for the Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) decision to issue a show cause notice to Kalyan Chaubey, the current Interim President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
In a letter written to the Indian Olympic Association, Kosaraju emphasised the collective concerns regarding Chaubey's leadership and its detrimental impact on the future of football in India.
Chaubey’s continued position as Interim President is a consequence of the Supreme Court's orders. However, with the court yet to address critical constitutional matters regarding the AIFF, we find ourselves in a precarious situation, Kosaraju stated.
He expressed disappointment over Chaubey's recent acceptance as a voting delegate for the AIFF and his election as joint secretary of the IOA, calling it a shocking and surprising decision.
Kosaraju pointed out that during Chaubey’s time as CEO of the IOA, there were significant oversights regarding the educational qualifications necessary for the role. "These fundamental lapses have led to serious consequences for Indian football," he remarked.
He specifically highlighted Chaubey's controversial withdrawal of India’s bid to host the AFC Championship in 2027. "This decision, made without proper consultation with the Government of India, has undermined our footballing ambitions, especially given the government’s financial support for major FIFA tournaments held in our country," Kosaraju said.
"The Prime Minister himself inaugurated these prestigious events, underscoring the government's commitment to promoting football in India," he added.
Kosaraju expressed concern over the financial losses incurred by the AIFF during Chaubey's tenure. "We have heard from credible sources, including Nilanjan Bhattacharjee, the AIFF's legal head, who has publicly condemned Chaubey for misappropriation of resources," he noted.
"Additionally, a former general secretary and election agent of Chaubey has also come forward to raise concerns about his actions," he said.
Kosaraju concluded by asserting that the sports community firmly believes Chaubey’s days in his current positions are numbered.
"While there may be speculation about the Government of India and the ruling BJP's involvement, let me be clear: they do not condone his misdeeds. We urge the IOA and its executive members to take immediate and stringent action against Kalyan Chaubey. It is vital for the integrity of the AIFF and the future of Indian sports, especially as we look forward to hosting Olympic events," he stated.
"Accountability and strong leadership in sports governance are imperative now more than ever...////...
