Mumbai, Aug 20 (Reporter) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday came down heavily on the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre, claiming that he is not working for the country's welfare but is trying to consolidate power by becoming an autocrat.
Addressing the gathering on occasion of 'Sadbhavna Divas' and the Sankalp meet that was organised at Shanmukhananda Hall to mark the 80th birth anniversary of former prime minister late Rajiv Gandhi, he said that the people of Maharashtra however rejected him in the Lok Sabha election.
Making a comparison between Rajiv Gandhi and Narendra Modi, he said that under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi, the Congress secured huge victory by winning the highest number of 415 seats yet he was not arrogant, on other hand, when Narendra Modi made a big claim that his party will win 400 plus seats, Maharashtra deliver him a severe blow.
Consequently, the Modi government is a minority government, and he had to form the government with support of JDU and Telugu Desam, he noted.
He recalled that Rajiv Gandhi carried out various vaccination programmes but never put his photo on them, whereas Modi did the petty act of putting his photo on the Covid-19 vaccination certificate.
Continuing his attack, Kharge accused BJP of having toppled opposition state governments in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Manipur to bring BJP rule.
Modi broke the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party and rewarded the defectors with Rajya Sabha seats, but in the Lok Sabha election the INDIA bloc gave a befitting reply, and the people stopped them at just 240 seats, he said.
The Congress chief urged party workers to fight unitedly in upcoming assembly election and bring the Maha Vikas Aghadi government to power.
The BJP is a venomous snake and should be kept away, he added...////...
