Arunachal: APSTS wall collapse at Karsingsa leaves 4 dead, 3 injured

Itanagar, Oct 9 (Reporter) In a tragic incident, four people, including a mother-son duo, lost their lives and three others were seriously injured after the boundary wall of the Central Workshop of the Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS) at Karsingsa collapsed early Wednesday morning due to heavy rainfall. The deceased have been identified as Vikash Biswas (12), his mother Urmila Biswas (34) of Keyamara village under Bihpuria police station in Assam’s Lakhimpur district, Mokibur Rehman (23) of Fatehpur village under Bihpuria PS, and Gautam Pal (46). Police sources said, as heavy rains had been lashing the region for the past few days, weakening the structures, the wall gave way and collapsed onto the adjacent kutcha houses where the victims were residing. Following this incident, rescue teams promptly arrived at the scene and rushed the injured to TRIHMS Naharlagun, where they are receiving treatment, police said. Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo said that a police team along with local residents rushed to the scene, rescued eight individuals alive, including the three injured, and retrieved four dead bodies from the debris. The timely response of the police team from Banderdewa Police Station led by the officer in-charge Inspector Kipa Hamak saved the lives of three injured individuals trapped under the debris, he said. The injured persons, identified as Akash Biswas, Rakesh Biswas, and Arun Ali, have been provided necessary medical care and are reported to be out of danger. The bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their relatives after post-mortem examination at TRIHMS Naharlagun.
