Aizawl, Jan 19 (Reporter) In a significant operation, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police have jointly seized 30 sticks of gelatin and 20 detonators near Khatla Road in Aizawl.
According to a statement from Assam Rifles on Sunday the explosives were seized on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off about explosives being transported, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post was set up, intercepting a vehicle en route from Aizawl to Cherhlun village in Hnahthial district, bordering Myanmar. The driver, identified as Hmingthansanga (42) from Hnahthial district, was taken into custody, and the explosives were handed over to the police for further investigation.
Police suspect the explosives might have been intended for transport to Myanmar, potentially for use by anti-coup groups operating in the region.
Separately, Mizoram Police last Wednesday seized a large cache of weapons near Saithah village in Mamit district, close to the Bangladesh border. The haul included six AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, and 10,050 rounds of ammunition.
Five individuals were arrested in connection with the arms cache, including two Myanmar nationals, one Bangladeshi Chakma, a Mizoram resident, and Bil Cung, a high-ranking member of the Chin National Front (CNF)/Chin National Army (CNA).
The seizures highlight concerns over the smuggling of arms and explosives through Mizoram's borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, with authorities ramping up efforts to curb such activities...////...
