Baba Siddique's son Zeeshan joins Ajit Pawar's NCP

Mumbai, Oct 25 (Reporter) Zeeshan Siddique, son of slain Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Ziauddin Siddique, on Friday officially joined Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party faction. Zeeshan was welcomed into the party by Ajit Pawar, state President Sunil Tatkare and others at a function here. Ajit Pawar shook hands with Zeeshan, gave him a hug and awarded him with a party ticket from the same constituency (Bandra East), considered a stronghold of the Maha Vikas Aghadi ally Shiv Sena (UBT) for many years. Incidentally, Bandra East is the same area which saw the gunning down of Baba Siddique near Zeeshan’s office on October 12 night, at the height of the Dussehra festivities, stunning the state political circles. The Shiv Sena (UBT) has fielded Varun Sardesai, a close aide of the Thackeray family from Bandra East, but there is speculation whether he would be able to overcome a potential sympathy wave for Zeeshan Siddique in view of his father’s brutal killing. Zeeshan was expelled by the Congress in August - after reports of cross-voting in a legislative council election.
