Badlapur rapes: Accused Shinde sent to 14-day judicial custody

Mumbai, Aug 26 (Reporter) A Maharashtra court in Kalyan city on Monday remanded Akshay Shinde, key accused in the alleged rape of two minor girls in a school in Thane’s Badlapur, to judicial custody for 14 days. Shinde was presented before Special Women Judge V A Patrawale on the expiry of his police custody. Before Judge Patrawale sent the accused to judicial custody, Public Prosecutor (PP) Ashwini Patil-Bhambre informed the court that charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act had been added in the case. Simultaneously, the police have added the names of school President, Secretary and school principal as accused in the case. He informed the court that police were still trying to locate the accused ’s mobile phone and submitted that the identification parade of the accused was required to be conducted. The court reserved its order on the venue of conducting the identification parade. The accused was arrested on August 17 and sent to police custody which was extended till August 26 even as the Kalyan Bar Association resolved not to defend him in the case...////...
