Patna, Mar 13 (Reporter) Bar Council of India announced compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to family members of advocates killed in an inferno caused by a transformer blast in Patna civil court premises on Wednesday.
Chairman of Bihar State Bar Council Ramakant Sharma told media persons here that he had talked to Chairman of Bar Council of India Manan Mishra and informed him about the tragic incident.
A transformer in Patna civil court premises exploded, which caused inferno, leading to a tragic incident, he added.
"Whatever may be the reasons behind the explosion, it is most painful and tragic," Sharma said. As per talks held with Mishra, the Bar Council of India would give compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to family members of those killed, while Rs 50,000 would be given to injured for treatment, he added.
Sharma said that the state bar council would give Rs one lakh to family members of deceased advocates. Those injured would be given compensation of Rs 50,000 by the state council for treatment, he added.
Chairman of state bar council said that cheques would be issued immediately after the names of dependents of the deceased were received. He also demanded immediate action against authorities for lapses leading to the incident.
As per reports, one advocate, Devendra Kumar, was burned alive in the incident, while several others sustained injuries in the incident. The condition of the two admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) was stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, Chhaya Mishra, vice president of the Patna High Court Advocates Association, issued the statement demanding stern action against those responsible for the incident and compensation of Rs 20 lakhs to family members of the deceased.
She said, "Our sympathies go to the family of our colleague Devendra Kumar,who became a victim of the transformer blast in Patna Civil Court on Wednesday noon. We extend our support to the other lawyers who got burn injuries and are admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital.
We demand immediate action and the registration of an FIR against the officers responsible for the death of the lawyer in the transformer blast. Their negligence in the maintenance of the transformer caused a blast."
