Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee inaugurates Kolkata Christmas Festival

Kolkata, Dec 19 (Reporter) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday formally inaugurated the Christmas festival at Allen Park on posh Park Street and said she was privileged for unveiling such a fest. She opened the 12-day festival in the presence of Reverend Thomas D'Souza, Archbishop of Kolkata, Rt. Rev. Dr. Paritosh Canning, Bishop of Kolkata, Church of North India, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata, British Deputy High Commissioner, and TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien and other distinguished dignitaries. "It’s that time of the year again when the city comes together to soak in the beauty of the festive season. The streets are aglow with lights, the aroma of home-cooked delicacies wafts through the air, and the sound of carols and bells adds to the joyous atmosphere," she said. "Since its inception in 2011, this festival has grown in popularity over the years, becoming one of Kolkata’s most eagerly awaited annual celebrations," she said. "I extend my gratitude to the organisers for upholding this cherished tradition. My special thanks to the Kolkata Police, Kolkata Municipal Corporation, and the West Bengal Tourism Department for providing exceptional logistical support," she said. She also virtually inaugurated the 2nd edition of the Darjeeling Melo Tea Fest organised by Darjeeling Police and GTA. Adding to the festivities, Banerjee illuminated 14 churches across the state, with respective DMs, SPs, and senior officials present on the ground to mark the special occasion," she announced.
