Bengal: Ghosh, 3 others sent to 14-day judicial custody

Kolkata, Sep 10 (Reporter) Sandip Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital arrested by the CBI in alleged financial irregularities case, was on Tuesday remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a special court here. Ghosh, his personal security guard Afsar Ali Khan, and hospital vendors Biplav Singha (52) and Sumon Hazra (46) were also remanded to judicial custody till September 23 by the Special Court at Alipur as the probe agency did not seek their further custody for interrogation. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Ghosh (53) on September 3 and got his custody till Tuesday. Earlier in the day, the CBI sought permission from court for presenting the accused through videoconferencing but the request was rejected. The lawyers at the Alipur court protested against Ghosh shouting slogans against him and tried to obstruct his way while leaving the court. However, the state and Central forces escorted the four to the prison van, which quickly drove out of the premises for the Presidential Correctional Home nearby.
