Kolkata, Feb 12 (Reporter) West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose expressed his concern on Monday
over the situation at Sandeshkhali before leaving for the trouble-torn North 24 Parganas district, where the CPIM called a 12-hour shutdown that began at 0600 hours, official sources said.
A two-member delegation of the West Bengal Commission for Women has already reached Sandeshkhali to ascertain the ground reality of the situation where the village women alleged against two TMC leaders Shibu Hazra and Uttam Sardar about their torture.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to lead a 50-member MLA delegation to visit Sandeshkhali this afternoon, where Section 144 CrPC has been clamped since Friday night following sporadic violence and arson last week. The village people, especially the women, have been demanding the arrest of absconding TMC leader Sahjahan Sheikh and his close two aides, Hazra and Uttam Sardar.
Sardar was suspended by TMC for six years last week, and alleged mastermind TMC leader Sahjahan has been absconding since January 5 after orchestrating attacks on Enforcement Directorate officials and on CRPF personnel when they went to search his home.
The TMC alleged that the CPI and BJP were fomenting trouble.
A top police official of the district told reporters that they would not allow more than four people at Sandeshkhali blocks 1 and 2, where the prohibitory order was clamped, and the internet services have been suspended since late last week following wanton violence.
The CPI(M) called for a 12-hour Sandeshkhali bandh to protest the arrest of the party's former CPI(M) MLA, Nirapada Sardar, accused of fomenting violence in North 24 Parganas.
The party also demanded the arrest of Sahjahan and Shibu Hazra.
Uttam Sardar was arrested soon after the TMC suspended him from the party.
A recent report said Governor CV Anando Bose, who curtailed his Kerala vacation and rushed to the city early on Monday, has already reached Dhamakhali.
From there, he will take a boat to cross over the river and reach Sandeshkhali.
The governor has already communicated his concern regarding violence at Sandeshkhali and asked Nabanna to submit a report about the law-and-order situation there...////...
