Kolkata, Sept 3 (Reporter) The West Bengal health department on Tuesday suspended ex-principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh, who has been taken into custody by the CBI for his alleged involvement in a financial scam during his tenure in the hospital, official sources said. It may be mentioned that Ghosh's arrest was one of the demands of the junior medics of the government hospital, who are on cease work demanding justice for their lady colleague allegedly raped and murdered at her workplace on August 9. Earlier in the day a special court in the city remanded Sandip Ghosh, who was arrested by CBI's anti-corruption unit on Monday for 8 days CBI custody. Ghosh and three others were produced before the special CBI court in Alipore, which remanded them to 8 days in CBI custody. The CBI counsel had demanded 10 days custody, sources added. The CBI counsel told the court that there was a large-scale nexus that needed to be probed and exposed, and hence their interrogation was needed further to unravel the truth behind the alleged scandal. The anti-corruption branch of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday evening arrested Ghosh and three others after the Calcutta high court transferred the case from Kolkata Police to the central agency. Afsar Ali Khan, “personal bouncer” of Ghosh, and two vendors who used to supply materials to the hospital– Biplav Singha and Suman Hazara – have also been arrested by the CBI. Khan’s name came in the public domain after a video went viral in which he was making claims about his connection to the highest power of the corridor.
