Kolkata, Oct 7 (Reporter) On a day when CBI filed a chargesheet in the RG Kar Hospital murder case, a group of senior doctors in West Bengal on Monday joined, for one day, their seven junior colleagues in their fast-unto-death protest at Esplanade demanding justice for the victim, official sources said. The junior doctors’ fast-unto-death entered its 3rd day on Monday, official sources said. Earlier, the CBI named Sanjoy Roy, a West Begal police's civic volunteer, as the prime accused in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at the hospital. Senior doctor Subarna Goswami said they have been with their juniors all along in the struggle to clean up the health sector, plagued by corruption. Junior doctor Aniket Mahato of RG Kar Hospital on Sunday evening joined six of their colleagues, who are on fast-unto-death since Saturday at the Dorina Crossing at Esplanade, the heart of the metropolis. “Since six of our colleagues from different medical colleges & hospitals volunteered to begin the hunger strike, some people had been questioning why no one from RG Kar Hospital was among those six. Probably, they forgot that the plight of the junior doctors because of the existing ‘threat culture’ is not just limited to RG Kar. That is why those raising the question tried to create confusion among people,” said Mahato. The medics under the banner of West Bengal Junior Doctors Front have been on protest since August 9, when a 2nd year post-graduate lady trainee doctors was allegedly murdered and raped in RG Kar Hospital in north Kolkata. The medics are on fast-unto-death over their 10-point demands, including safety and security at work place in the state-owned hospitals across West Bengal, and removal of state health secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam. On Monday, a group of senior doctors joined the fast for the day as they vowed to be with their junior colleagues and joined the hunger strike for the next 24 hours. Senior doctor Subarna Goswami said they have been with their juniors all along in the struggle to clean up the health sector, which has been plagued with corruption and threat culture. “Since six of our colleagues from different medical colleges & hospitals volunteered to begin the hunger strike, some people had been questioning why no one from RG Kar was among those six. Probably, they forgot that the plight of the junior doctors because of the existing ‘threat culture’ is not just limited to RG Kar. That is why those raising the question tried to create confusion among people,” said Mahato. The six junior doctors who volunteered to begin the hunger strike on Saturday evening are: Pulastya Acharya from NRS Medical College & Hospital; Tanaya Panja, Snighdha Hazra and Anustup Mukhopadhyay from Calcutta Medical College & Hospital; Sayantani Ghosh Hazra from KPC Medical College & Hospital and Arnab Mukhopadhyay from SSKM Medical College & Hospital...////...
