Kolkata, Aug 11 (Reporter) The agitating junior doctors at the state government-owned R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on Sunday demanded a judicial probe into the alleged
rape and murder of a 2nd-year woman PG trainee doctor in the hospital on Friday.
The agitating junior doctors said they were not satisfied with the decision of the Police to inquire into the incident by a SIT and demanded a judicial probe.
The demand for the judicial probe was taken at a meeting on Sunday. They also
announced to intensify their agitation and appealed to all stakeholders and civic society to join them.
The protesters announced that they would not attend the emergency department till their demands were conceded.
Meanwhile, the authorities have removed Medical Superintendent Sanjay Basista and two private security men, official sources said.
The thirty-one-year-old woman medical trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered on the 3rd-floor seminar hall of the cardiology department early Friday where she was resting for the night after duty, sources said.
The Kolkata Police set up an 11-member SIT and arrested a suspect Sanjay Roy, a Civic Volunteer who has been remanded to 14 days police custody by a Sealdah court on Saturday.
The state Health Department on Sunday removed the hospital Superintendent (MSVP) Sanjay Vasishtha and appointed RG Kar Hospital Dean Dr. Bulbul Mukhopadhyay in his place.
The protestors also demanded the removal of the Principal and the Head of
the Cardiology department of the hospital within 12 hours holding them
responsible for the crime
The protesting junior doctors also demanded the authorities let them know the evidence on which ground the suspect was arrested as they believed there were more
suspects in the crime.
Meanwhile, the protest spread to other government hospitals in the city
and district.
The state Health Department on Sunday canceled the leave of all government doctors and asked those who were already on leave to join their duty.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said she was
opposed to a CBI probe in the case and assured that her government would
insist on a fast-track court and demanded capital punishment to the guilty.
CPI(M) leader and advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya reacting to the
CM statement said the Chief Minister can order a CBI inquiry if she really
meant it.
BJP's state President Sukanta Majumdar has dashed off a letter to the union
Health Minister J P Nadda to send a Medical Council team to check the infrastructure of the state government hospitals in Bengal.
The All India Federation of Doctors Association has decided to go on a protest from Monday.
The Resident Doctors Association has also called for protests across the country. It is reported that a letter will be sent to the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister, and Health Minister to intervene.
They said that health education is a joint responsibility the Union government cannot avoid their responsibilities...////...
