Kolkata, Dec 20 (Reporter) A major fire broke out at shanties in East Kolkata's Topsia area, reducing many shelters to ashes on Friday. Sound of explosions was heard from possible cooking gas cylinders, official sources said. There had been no immediate report of human casualty in the fire, which broke out at around 1230 hours. At least five fire tenders were pressed into services to combat the leaping flames. The affected people, meanwhile, protested before the Pragati Maidan Police, who tried to keep them at bay, helping the fire brigade personnel to combat the flames at Majdoor Para, sources said. Plumes of black smoke enveloped the area preventing the fire fighting men from going close to the sources of fire. Local residents said at least 200 shanties were reduced to ashes...////...
