Kolkata, Oct 7 (Reporter) The West Bengal Junior Doctors Front (WBJDF) on Monday announced 12-hour hunger strike in front of all state-owned hospitals on Tuesday, alongside the ongoing fast-unto-death protest by seven medics at the city hub Esplanade.
Meanwhile, state chief secretary Manoj Pant once again appealed to the medics to resume work saying the government was working at a fast pace to put in place all the measures needed to ensure the safety and security of the doctors as per the agreement arrived during the talks with them earlier.
He said Rs 113 crore has been earmarked for development of infrastructure and installation of CCTV cameras to ensure a conducive atmosphere for the working doctors.
However, the medics said their 10-point charter of demands was yet to be implemented and decided to continue their movement until the existing threat culture in the hospitals was eliminated and the people helming the health department were removed.
The 12-hour fast by the junior and senior doctors, senior nurses and health workers would be organised between 9 am and 9 pm in front of all government hospitals on Tuesday. A mega
rally would be taken out the same day at 4-30 PM from College Square to Dharamtalla, both in Central Kolkata.
WBJDF spokesperson Dr Debashish Haldar appealed to the common people to join the
rally in solidarity with them, saying their movement was for a transparent health care system in the state-owned hospitals where poor people get their services.
He said the junior doctors have been giving services to their respective hospitals and at the same time carrying on a movement demanding justice for the death of their female colleague raped and murdered at the RG Kar Hospital..
Meanwhile, the CBI on Monday submitted a 45-page charge sheet naming Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer attached to Kolkata Police in the August 9 rape and murder case of the 31-year-old-old lady doctor.
The CBI. which took up the case on August 14 after the Calcutta High Court transferred it to the federal probe agency from the Kolkata Police, submitted the chargesheet by appending the statements of 58 witnesses in the Sealdah Court in the city.
In another development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday got fresh custody of arrested Dr Ashish Pandey of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for 11 days after the accused was produced in the Sealdah Court.
Pandey was arrested on Thursday in connection with the alleged financial irregularities in the state-run hospital between 2021 and 2024. He was close to the arrested former RGK principal Sandip Ghosh, accused in both cases of rape-murder and financial irregularities...////...
