Kolkata, May 23 (Reporter) Ahead of sixth phase of poll on Saturday, Nandigram in Purba Medinipur was once again on boil on Thursday after the alleged murder of a BJP's women wing worker Rathibala Arhi by unidentified miscreants last night.
The BJP workers staged demonstration and protests prompting deployment of the Central armed forces, official sources said.
Sources said the miscreants raided the village and set on fire some of the houses.
Police were investigating the crimes in Sonachura village where the miscreants raided some of the houses of BJP supporters and attacked them with sharp weapons in which party worker Rathibala Arhi was killed and her son Sanjay Arhi wounded among seven others.
Sanjay was shifted to a hospital in Kolkata after his condition deteriorated.
The miscreants, after attacking, torched some of the houses and shops in the locality.
Nandigram MLA Suvendu Adhikari alleged that the "Jangi Jihadi" was behind the crime and BJP state President Sukanta Majumdar alleged the TMC was behind the crime.
He said the TMC was making all efforts to create terror in the area and threatening the voters to ensure defeat of the BJP candidate Justice (retd) Abhijit Gangopadhyaya in the Saturday's poll in the Tamluk Lok Sabha seat.
The BJP workers staged a protest demonstration and burned the tyres on the road against the murder of their women wing worker and demanded arrest of the culprits.
Today is the last day for campaigning for the May 25 poll.
Reports said the miscreants attacked the Manasha Pukur market area around 2 am. The miscreants came on motorcycles and attacked the houses of BJP supporters with sharp weapons in which Rathibala Arhi was killed and eight others wounded.
Sanjoy came to save his mother when the miscreants attacked him and wounded him critically.
Meanwhile, the central armed forces were deployed to instil confidence aming the local people.
