Bengal: NIA seeks HC's intervention for quashing FIR

Kolkata, April 9 (Reporter) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday sought the Calcutta High Court's intervention in quashing an FIR filed by the West Bengal Police against the anti-terror agency related to raid and search on April 6 into a 2022 bomb blast case at Bhupatinagar of East Medinipur that killed three people, court sources said. The NIA told the court that its officers were attacked by an irate mob while returning after arresting two accused, who were key suspects in the case. The NIA alleged that the State Police had registered FIRs for 'molestation' against the agency's officers, who were attacked at the behest of the family members and supporters of the accused. The case is expected to be heard later today before single judge bench Justice Jay Sengupta. The NIA is probing the blast case following an order of the Calcutta High Court after a special court on April 3 expressed concern after the NIA approached it as the accused persons were skipping summons on the plea that they were busy with the general elections. The special court opined that it was serious nature. The two accused, arrested, are state ruling TMC leaders. In the 2022 December blast case all three persons killed were TMC supporters. A report from East Medinipur said that the Bhupatinagar police station summoned the NIA officers, who sustained injury in the attack and also produce the vehicle which was vandalised during the mob attack on the anti-terror agency...////...
