Kolkata, Dec 27 (Reporter) The West Bengal Police began a crackdown on illegal entry of foreign nationals, particularly Bangladeshi, and arrested over 15 people under the Foreigners Act in the past 72 hours, official sources said on Friday.
Kolkata Police on Thursday arrested a Bangladesh national, identified as Md Abidur Rahman, for staying illegally in the Park Street area with a fake ID.
The arrested person claimed that he was a fabric businessman/supplier, but the Police were examining if he had any link with the former BNP leader Salim Matabbar (27), who was nabbed last month for an illegal stay in India.
Police have seized a fake Aadhaar card and PAN card from the accused, a resident of Narail district, Bangladesh. Rahaman was now in Police custody following a court order after being produced for judicial process.
In another crackdown, the district police arrested 10 Bangladeshi nationals and five Indian agents engaged in human trafficking in Nadia district on Thursday. All have been produced before a district court for judicial process on Friday...////...
