Kolkata, Dec 14 (Reporter) Widespread protests erupted across Kolkata on Saturday protesting failure of the CBI to file charge sheet against R G
Kar Hospital's former principal Sandip Ghosh, one of the accused
persons, who got bail in the alleged rape and murder case of a young lady doctor.
The SUCI, the SFI, Congress and medical professionals from different
organisations took out protest rallies at the CBI offices at CGO
Complex at Salt Lake and at Nizam Palace in the city condemning the
federal agency to file a charge sheet in the past 90 days after the
murder took place on August 9.
The Sealdah court on Friday granted bail to Ghosh and Tala Police
station ex-OC Abhijit Mondal after the Centra Bureau of Investigation
failed to file charge sheet in the stipulated 90 days time. The duo
were arrested by the CBI suspecting of their involvement in tampering
the murder scene evidence and delayed in filing the FIR in the alleged
rape and murder of the 31--year-old lady resident doctor as her
body was recovered from a seminar room of RGK where she spent
overnight after completing 36 hours of duty.
The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI), Students Federation of
India - the students wing of the CPI(M) and Congress held different
protest rallies condemning the CBI's failure as well as dubbing it as
" Modi-Mamata- setting,- led to a court bail.
They also held the state government responsible for providing
necessary sanction to prosecute Ghosh and House Staff Dr Ashish Kumar
Panday, for being the government employees. The CBI needed the
sanction order to prosecute them in the two cases, including alleged
financial irregularities at the RGK Hospital.
The SUCI marched through the streets from Karunamoyee to the CGO
Complex where the CBI held a protest demonstration. Similarly the SFI
blocked the busy College Street during the protests and demanded
justice for Abhaya.
The Congress nearly gheraoed the Nizam Palace and alleged state and
centre nexus for CBI failure to provide evidences in the murder case.
The West Bengal Junior Doctors Front and Services of Doctors Forum
also took out their separate rallies in the streets to march to the
Esplanade.
The Services of Doctors Forum also wrote a letter to chief minister
Mamata Banerjee requesting her to give sanction to prosecute Sandip
Ghosh and Ahish Pandey...////...
