Bengaluru, April 17 (Reporter) The upcoming Lok Sabha election in Bengaluru South promises to be a closely contested battle between BJP's Tejasvi Surya and Congress' Sowmya Reddy.
With the election scheduled for April 26, both candidates are leaving no stone unturned in their campaign efforts to secure victory in this prominent constituency.
Tejasvi Surya, the current MP and leader of the BJP youth wing, is vying for re-election and enjoys the advantage of incumbency. With the strong backing of the BJP's organizational machinery, Surya is aiming to retain the seat for the party.
On the other hand, Sowmya Reddy, daughter of Minister Ramalinga Reddy and former MLA from Jayanagar, is the Congress candidate challenging Surya. With her political lineage and the support of prominent Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, Reddy is posing a strong challenge to the BJP's stronghold in the constituency.
In the previous Assembly election, Sowmya narrowly lost by just 16 votes, indicating her strong presence and popularity among the voters. However, Bengaluru South has been a BJP bastion since 1991, with the party winning five out of eight Assembly constituencies in the 2023 elections.
The constituency, known for its significant Brahmin population, has traditionally supported the BJP. Both candidates are working to appeal to a diverse range of voters beyond their party's core support base to secure victory in the upcoming election.
Sowmya is focusing her campaign on Congress' five guarantees, highlighting issues like free bus travel for women and other welfare schemes. She is actively connecting with voters through roadshows and canvassing, emphasizing the Congress party's commitment to addressing the needs of the people.
On the other hand, Tejasvi Surya is highlighting the economic progress made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. He is engaging with voters through meetings and discussions, emphasising the BJP's achievements and vision for the future.
