By BD Narayankar Bengaluru, Sep 27 (Reporter) Bengaluru FC will look to reverse their fortunes as they prepare to face Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on Saturday. The Blues have managed to defeat the Mariners only once in their last nine encounters, with Mohun Bagan winning six of those matchups. Both teams enter this match unbeaten, setting the stage for an enthralling clash. Bengaluru FC has had a promising start to the season, securing victories in their opening two matches against East Bengal and Hyderabad FC. In contrast, Mohun Bagan Super Giant began their campaign with a draw against Mumbai City FC but rebounded with a solid victory over NorthEast United FC in their last outing. Under head coach Gerard Zaragoza, Bengaluru FC has established a formidable home record, suffering just one defeat in their last nine matches at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. The only loss during this period was a heavy 0-4 defeat to Mohun Bagan last season, a statistic that the Blues will be keen to rectify in this fixture. Mohun Bagan has showcased impressive attacking capabilities, netting 43 goals from open play since the beginning of the previous season, the highest in the league. In contrast, Bengaluru FC has scored 18 goals from open play during the same period. Zaragoza has emphasised the importance of squad depth, stating, "It’s 100% important to have a bench that can change the game. As a coach, it’s perfect. The game lasts 90 minutes, and we need players who can play 90 minutes as well as players who can come off the bench and make an impact." He also highlighted that the Blues have scored only six goals in the final quarter of matches since the 2023-24 season, underscoring the need for impactful substitutions. Despite securing their first victory of the season, Mohun Bagan head coach Jose Molina has called for continued improvement from his players. He remarked, "There are still things to do, of course, but they are really happy because we got the three points. I hope the win will give us more confidence in the next matches." In their previous nine encounters in the ISL, Bengaluru FC has managed just one victory over Mohun Bagan, who have won six times, with two matches ending in draws. With both teams in fine form, the encounter promises to be an exhilarating spectacle for ISL enthusiasts...////...
