The match saw Sunil Chhetri become the all-time leading goal-scorer in ISL history with his 64th league goal. The match began with Bengaluru FC asserting their dominance early, as Edgar Mendez opened the scoring in the 9th minute with a clinical finish from a corner. Suresh Wangjam doubled the lead in the 20th minute, capitalising on a loose ball inside the box to fire home. In the second half, Chhetri made history by converting a penalty in the 50th minute, following a foul on Mendez, to cement his place as the ISL's top scorer. Speaking after the game, Chhetri expressed his joy at the win and the record. "Very happy to get three points against a team like Mohun Bagan. Wasn't easy. So happy we could do what we planned to do," the BFC captain said. He praised his coaching staff and teammates, adding, "Champion players also want to win everything. That doesn’t mean wins are guaranteed, but we’ll be a tough team to face."
