Bihar: 46 people including 37 children drown during Jitiya festival

Patna, Sept 26 (Reporter) At least 46 people including 37 children and 7 women met their watery grave during the Jitiya festival in Bihar, the disaster management department said here on Thursday. In a statement, the department said a majority of the casualities took place when the people were taking bath either in the rivers or ponds on the occasion of Jitiya festival which ended during the day. The casualities have been reported from East Champaran, West Champaran, Nalanda, Aurangabad, Kaimur, Buxar, Siwan, Rohtas, Saran, Patna, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Gopalganj and Arwal districts. According to state disaster management sources, 43 bodies were fished out till Thursday noon. The nearest kith and kin of the deceased would be paid ex gratia of Rs 400000 each. Following the instructions of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the ex-gratia amount has already been paid to the nearest family member kith of 8 deceased and the rest were in process...////...
