Bihar assembly adjourned on Waqf issue

Patna, Nov 27 (Reporter) Bihar Assembly was adjourned following ruckus created by the opposition over Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 during pre-lunch sitting on Wednesday. Soon after the Speaker Nand Kishor Yadav turned down the adjournment motion and took up the Zero Hour proceedings, the entire opposition demanded the chair to allow them to read the notice of the adjournment motion and started shouting. The opposition members said that the Waqf issue was serious. The speaker however said that issue was a serious one but cannot be discussed in the house as it is not related to the state government. He said the Government of India has to frame a law for which it has constituted a Joint Parliamentary committee (JPC) and suggested the members to raise their matter before the committee. The opposition members demanded from the Bihar government to reject the Waqf Amendment Bill by moving a proposal in the house. The opposition also insisted to allow them to read the notices. In support of their demand, the entire opposition trooped to the well and created noisy scenes. The Speaker reiterated his suggestions for raising it before the committee constituted by the government of India for it. He said the house would function according to the laid rules and regulations and clause 80 and 82 of the rules do not permit him to allow any one to read any such information. Yadav repeatedly requested the members to resume their seats however the opposition continuously shouted slogans against the Nitish government from the well of the house. The speaker later adjourned the house at 12:10 hours till lunch. Earlier when the house assembled for the day, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary proposed to extend gratitude towards the Prime Minister and the President for dedicating the translation of the Indian Constitution in Maithili language to the public. Taking up the proposal of Chaudhary, the speaker on behalf of the entire house expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister and the President for dedicating the Sanskrit and Maithili translation of the Indian constitution to the public...////...
