Bihar to host All India Presiding Officers Conference

Patna, Jan 13 (Reporter) The Bihar Legislature is all set to host the two-day "All India Presiding Officers' Conference" on January 20 and 21. Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishor Yadav and Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh told newspersons here on Monday that over 264 delegates and 54 Presiding Officers including 6 females along with several other dignitaries associated with legislatures and parliament will attend the 85th conference of the Speakers and Deputy Speakers. The 84th conference was held in Mumbai. Yadav said that given the 75th anniversary of the Constitution, the Lok Sabha has set the topic "75th anniversary of the Constitution: Contribution of Parliament and State Legislatures in strengthening constitutional values" for the conference. Yadav said that the conference which is held every year in some states at the all-India level, aims at connecting all the bodies of the parliamentary system, facilitates them to study each other's procedures and adopt those procedures which are easily acceptable. Yadav said that Bihar has got the opportunity to host the event after a gap of 43 years as the last conference in Bihar was held in 1982. Prior to this, the event was held here in 1964 under the supervision of the then Bihar Assembly Speaker Late Laxmi Narayan Sudhanshu. Outlining the history of the conference he said it was for the first time organized in Shimla in 1921.
