Hyderabad, Jan 5 (Reporter) Rajya Sabha Member and BJP OBC Morcha National President Dr K Laxman has launched a scathing attack on the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of betraying the trust of farmers by failing to fulfil promises made during the election campaign.
In a press release here on Sunday, Dr Laxman alleged that the Congress government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, has implemented a "rule of cuts," slashing crucial schemes meant for farmers.
"Farmers are drowning under the burden of unfulfilled promises, including loan waivers, Rythu Bandhu or Rythu Bharosa, and bonus payments," he said.
Dr Laxman pointed out inconsistencies in the government’s schemes, highlighting that the promised Rs 15,000 annual assistance under Rythu Bharosa has been reduced to Rs 12,000 for landless farmers.
Similarly, the per-acre seasonal investment assistance of Rs 7,500 has been cut to Rs 6,000. "The Congress guarantees are once again proving to be mere words written on water," he remarked.
He criticised the government’s delay in providing insurance for farmers and investment assistance for the monsoon and Yasangi seasons. "The monsoon is over, and the harvest season is ending, yet farmers are left waiting for insurance and investment aid," he stated.
The BJP leader also targeted the Congress government’s handling of the promised Rs 2 lakh loan waiver, pointing out that only partial relief has been provided. "Of the 42 lakh farmers eligible for the waiver, only 25.35 lakh have benefitted so far. The remaining 16.65 lakh farmers are still waiting. Compared to the previous government’s Rs1 lakh waiver, the number of beneficiaries for the ₹2 lakh waiver has decreased by 14 lakh," Dr. Laxman observed, questioning the rationale behind this.
Dr Laxman highlighted the Congress’s failure to deliver on its pledge to provide an additional Rs 500 bonus for various crops, including paddy, cotton, maize, and turmeric. "Even the promised bonus for paddy has been reduced to low-quality grains. The betrayal of Telangana farmers will not be forgiven," he asserted.
Dr Laxman demanded that CM Revanth Reddy publicly apologise to farmers for the government’s failures. "Farmers are owed Rs 17,500 per acre under Rythu Bandhu, yet no timeline has been given for repayment. The Congress government must answer when these dues will be cleared," he said.
He further criticised the government’s decision to require new declarations and affidavits from farmers despite already having comprehensive data from prior applications. "Why are these unnecessary delays being imposed on farmers? This is nothing but an attempt to evade responsibility," he added.
D Laxman warned that the Congress government’s actions would not be forgotten. "The Congress, which has betrayed Telangana farmers, will be taught a lesson at the right time for its blatant fraud and failure to honour its commitments," he added...////...
