Kolkata, May 15 (Reporter) The BJP on Wednesday demanded that the Election Commission of India (ECI) reject the nomination papers of two TMC Lok Sabha candidates Hazi Nurul Islam, contesting from Basirhat constituency, and Mala Roy from Kolkata Dakshin on "serious" technical ground.
BJP spokesperson Jagannath Chatterjee told a media conference that Islam, contesting from Basirhat in North 24 Parganas allegedly has not produced his " all dues clearance," certificate when he filed nomination paper on May 7. Islam was the MP in the 15th Lok Sabha and his term expired on May 18, 2014.
"It is mandatory under the ECI norms that any candidate has to produce his all dues clearance certificate for ten years for which BJP's Birbhum candidate and former IPS Debashish Dhar candidature was rejected", Chatterjee claimed.
He said besides the party's Basirhat candidate Rekha Patro, the BJP also lodged complaints with the ECI as well as the district poll official.
Similarly, BJP also wrote to the ECI against TMC candidate Mala Roy, contesting from Kolkata Dakshin as she holds office of the profit. She is the Chairperson of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, a statutory body.
Chatterjee alleged Mala Roy without resigning from the KMC post is contesting the Lok Sabha election.
The BJP spokesman claimed Mala Roy is holding an office of profit where she uses KMC's property, car and other amenities and those things are not exempted from the purview of laws of office of profits.
He said BJP candidate from Kolkata Dakshin Debashree Chowdhury as well the party lodged complaints with the ECI and local poll panel for rejecting Roy's candidature.
Chatterjee said they have now moved to the poll panel and if a situation arises they would knock at the doors of the judiciary.
Roy, defending her nomination paper said she hasn't drawn any honorarium since May 2019 from the KMC.
She claimed the KMC is an autonomous body and there is no salary but honorarium, which she has not taken since May 2019...////...
