Bengaluru, Mar 17 (Reporter) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday highlighted suspicions of corruption and misuse of power within the BJP government at the Centre regarding the electoral bond scheme and urged for transparency and accountability.
He alleged that the central government might be leveraging its power to coerce businessmen into making donations through electoral bonds, possibly using investigative agencies for blackmail.
"If we look at the information released by the Election Commission that the media is scrutinising, it appears that the Union @BJP4India Government is blackmailing businessmen. When we look at the dates of IT, ED, and CBI raids on these businessmen and the dates they purchased electoral bonds, it seems like a clear case of blackmail," Karnataka CM said on X.
"Is the Union Government misusing its investigative agencies to extort donations? Is the electoral bond a political weapon of mass extortion in the hands of the BJP? Prime Minister @narendramodi, please respond," he added.
Furthermore, Siddaramaiah questioned the reliability of projects and medicines produced by firms involved in the electoral bond scam, highlighting broader concerns about the integrity of infrastructure and pharmaceutical industries.
He called into question the government's responsibility to ensure the safety and efficacy of public projects and essential healthcare products.
"Based on the emerging information, it seems that a significant number of participants in the electoral bond scam are from infrastructure and pharmaceutical firms. How reliable are the roads, bridges, and buildings constructed by such fraudulent organisations? How safe are the medicines produced by these corrupt entities, @BJP4India? Shouldn't you, Prime Minister @narendramodi, be the one to answer these questions?" he questioned.
Siddaramaiah questioned the BJP's silence over the electoral bond scam, which he considered the biggest corruption scandal in the world.
He also flayed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's past promises regarding bringing back black money from Swiss banks, eliminating black money through demonetization, and the slogan 'Na Khaunga, Na Khane Dunga' (won't engage in corruption).
"Welcome to Karnataka, Prime Minister @narendramodi. Please answer why is @BJP4India silent about the electoral bond scam - the biggest corruption scandal in the world?"
"For a decade, you held power, promising to bring back black money from Swiss Bank, eliminate black money via demonetisation, claiming 'Na Khaunga, Na Khane Dunga', and being the so-called 'Chowkidar of the Nation'. Now, it is time for you to address the issues surrounding the electoral bond scam," he wrote on X.
Siddaramaiah demanded transparency regarding the electoral bond scheme and questioned why the SBI is hesitant to provide complete information despite Supreme Court orders.
"Despite the Supreme Court's order, why is the State Bank of India (SBI) hesitant to provide complete information? If the sale and purchase of electoral bonds were conducted legally, why is SBI concealing information? Who is exerting pressure on SBI? Prime Minister @narendramodi, please respond," he asked.
Siddaramaiah called for a Special Investigation Committee to probe the electoral bond scam and asked for the freezing of the bank accounts of the BJP until the investigation is complete.
"The Supreme Court, by thoroughly exposing the electoral bond scam, has raised suspicions among every citizen about the misuse of their tax money, and people strongly believe that the Union @BJP4India Government is fully involved in this fraud.
"I insist that the Supreme Court should establish a Special Investigation Committee to probe the electoral bond scam and, until then, freeze the bank accounts of BJP to clear these doubts," he said...////...
