New Delhi/Bengaluru, Sep 24 (Reporter) Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Tuesday reiterated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has no intentions of toppling the Congress-led Karnataka government, following the setback to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the High Court over the MUDA scam probe.
Joshi said the High Court's dismissal of Siddaramaiah's petition, challenging the Governor's sanction for his prosecution in the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, is like a "slap on the face" of the Congress government and the CM.
The Union minister urged the CM to resign to allow an impartial investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
"The people have given a mandate to rule. Let the Congress run the government properly and avoid falling into corruption," he stated, emphasising the BJP's commitment to upholding the electoral process while demanding accountability.
In the wake of the ruling, BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar accused Siddaramaiah of continuing a "tradition of the Congress under Rahul Gandhi", alleging that the Chief Minister makes empty promises to the poor while enriching himself and his family.
"The BJP demands the resignation of Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah to facilitate a free and independent investigation into the allegations of corruption," he asserted, claiming that the MUDA case exemplifies the misuse of office by a sitting Chief Minister.
In Bengaluru, BJP leader C T Ravi expressed approval of the court's decision, stating, "We welcome this. The law applies equally to everyone. Is there a separate law for Siddaramaiah? This is not how it works in this country. Corruption has occurred... He should resign."
BJP MLC Shashil G Namoshi also echoed these sentiments, noting that the court's ruling validated the Governor Taawarchand Gehlot's order for prosecution. "This only proves that what we were saying was true. I only request Siddaramaiah ji to resign," he remarked.
Meanwhile, in Hubballi, BJP MP Jagadish Shettar called for an immediate investigation following the court's decision, emphasising the need for accountability.
"When his name is involved, and his wife's name is there, I insist that the CM resign immediately on moral grounds," he said, calling the ruling as a landmark decision aligned with legal principles...////...
