Kolkata, Dec 6 (Reporter) Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, a BJP lawmaker in the Lok Sabha, has sent a letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee urging them to reconsider the legacy of Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus. This appeal comes amid disturbing reports of violence against minority communities, including Hindus, as well as the destruction of temples and ongoing persecution in neighboring Bangladesh. “I write with anguish as Hindus in Bangladesh face unspeakable horrors under Muhammad Yunus's leadership—mass killings, temple destruction, and persecution. Nobel Committee, how can a 'peace laureate' allow this? Act now to condemn these atrocities and uphold the integrity of the Prize,” Mahato, who represents the Purulia Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal, stated. In his message on social media, Mahato called for the reassessment of Muhammad Yunus's legacy and highlighted the need to condemn the atrocities occurring in Bangladesh. He emphasized that “silence would amount to complicity” and urged that recipients of this prestigious honor maintain the highest ethical standards throughout their lives. “I am compelled to highlight the tragic irony of awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to individuals whose legacies are now stained with violence and injustice. This letter specifically addresses the grave atrocities against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh under the current regime led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Dr. Yunus, who is internationally recognized for his work in microfinance, now faces accusations of either orchestrating or turning a blind eye to heinous crimes against humanity. Under his leadership in the interim government, the Hindu community has experienced unimaginable horrors,” Mahato asserted. Reports indicate a chilling escalation in violence, including the destruction of homes and Hindu temples, systematic rapes, and brutal murders. Hindu festivals, such as Durga Puja, have been disrupted by intimidation, extortion (notably the Jaziya tax), and bans on public celebrations. Legal and physical threats have also been directed at Hindu leaders, including the grave injury inflicted upon ISKCON's legal representative, Chinmoy Krishna Das, the BJP MP reported. “These atrocities are part of an institutionalized campaign of terror, with the government accused of providing tacit support to radical elements. Even former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has condemned Dr. Yunus, calling him the ‘mastermind’ behind the mass killings,” Mahato said...////...
