BJP Minister meets MNS President Raj Thackeray in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 8 ( UNI) Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party Mumbai Regional President Ashish Shelar met Maharashtra Navnirman Sena ( MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray here on Wednesday. Although it is said to be a goodwill visit, the visit has created ripples in political circles in the wake of the upcoming Municipal elections. Raj Thackeray had organized a meeting of all department heads of MNS in Mumbai yesterday. In this meeting, he ordered the department heads to forget the defeat in the assembly election and work hard for the upcoming municipal elections. It is significant that Shelar and Thackeray met on the very next day after this meeting. The MNS had unconditionally supported the Grand Alliance to make Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister again after the Lok Sabha election. In the assembly election, the MNS, however, fielded its candidates in 130 seats following the policy of 'Akela Chalo Re'. However, none of their candidates could get elected. Shiv Sena has dominated the Mumbai Municipal Corporation for more than two decades. Now the Shiv Sena has fallen into two factions and the Shinde group is with the BJP. BJP is making a desperate attempt to bring the Mumbai Municipal Corporation to them in the upcoming elections. On the other hand, the existence of the Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray faction seems to depend on the outcome of the Mumbai Municipal Elections. Therefore, they will also make a desperate attempt to wrest power in Mumbai. In this background, the meeting between the Minister and Thackeray assume significance. After the defeat in the assembly election, the MNS aiming for a remarkable performance in the Mumbai municipal elections to maintain the party's survival. A study group will be appointed by the MNS to study the political situation and the recommendations of the study group will be taken into consideration to decide the future course of the party and its policy regarding alliances with other parties.
